Pondering and Coffee

>> Monday, September 29, 2008

What is it that sets a very relaxed, self pondering mood when solitary cup of coffee on a chequered table cloth/old rustic table wood is pictured.
I mean what do you imagine when you see the following scene,
a cup of coffee, tea or chocolate, a book and pen and some fading light. It somehow conveys to me a mood of solitary pondering.

I wish I could get a dramatic setting to paint this scene.
But I have over the weekend accomplished painting a solitary scene. It ofcourse does not do justice to the original photography but then I beg forgiveness as an amateur.
Will post it soon.

Too much Violence?

>> Friday, September 26, 2008

I have heard of parents complaining about Tom and Jerry being too violent!!!!!
Being an ardent fan of the same toon strip I find this one a little hard to digest. Anyhow that brings me to the portrayal of violence since history.
I am pointing to the gruesome past.origins of the famous nursery rhymes!!!! Like Jack and Jill based onthe beheading of King Louis XVI - Jack -who was beheaded (lost his crown) followed by his Queen Marie Antoinette - Jill - (who came tumbling after).
(you can look it up in google) and oranges and lemons based on one of those as well.

But since the kids do not know these they hardly realize the history behind( which to me is great they do not at that age need to know everything!!!!)

Momma and Poppa visit

>> Wednesday, September 17, 2008

Are you one of those who have to get into the cleaning frenzy whenever folks come home!!!
Then you can understand what I am about to regail you on. As soon as the date of my folks coming over loomed ahead, I started seeing dust all around the "Habitat". I mean the places earlier looked 'ummm little lived in', little messy started looking like big blobs of dust that have to be cleaned.
Suddenly I started moving the furniture and all around and cleaning it or getting it cleaned. Suddenly the window ledges started producing dust and cupboards started to show dark spots.
Now i am not all that messy but I believe that it is a parameter which has more than the current two levels( clean-tidy and messy-pig sty). It is a parameter having more than these measures and i am in the lived in parameter which is between the above two levels. But ofcourse momma is the in the spick and span , clean and tidy, swish swosh parameter so to live up to her expectations I am kinda sorta looking like this...
Nevertheless I am looking forward to having them over!!!

More watercolor practice.

Well these are directly copied from another lady's blog (paris breakfasts) for practice purposes only. So that I can see( and learn) how to suggest shapes instead of drawing them.
The originals are great. I liked one attempt. The other could have done better.

Finding the 'Bag'

>> Friday, September 12, 2008

Well this is about my handbag!!
I carry it to office and these were her last days!!
With the snap being rag like I had to look out for the substitute(fickle minded me!). All my bosses or anybody who knew me always happened to bump into me with that rag like snap on my shoulder. I obviously had to do something about it!!
Anyhow looking high and low for the right one. Who would not be too casual too drabby, too small, too delicate... This one grabbed D and I guess I saw a flicker of relief on his face as he pointed it out to me. (I had been dragging D all through the city to look for the one and only!!)

Emotionally connected to--- Maggie

>> Tuesday, September 9, 2008

This is one of those things which have a country wide appeal from all ages to all regions.

very recently my hubby was mentioning his maggie journey.
As children he and his sister would share one pack of maggie and give the remaining to their dad.
Then they would share a whole pack of maggie between the two of them.
Then each would ravish a pack of maggie each.
Now he can finish two when really hungry.

This just illustrates my point to the fact that we are all emotionally attached to Maggie. I remember cajoling mom to allow us the Friday maggie night(this is at a time when junk food was equated to unwise-uncaring mommy-who -does-not -make delicious-food- for- her children-mindset)
today all youngsters and all people like us seriously crave maggie. I am sure bachelors and hostelites swear by it.
So many varieties (sambar, rice noodles, curry, tomato etc) have flooded the market but my heart still remains loyal to our own- masala maggie.
Long live Maggie

Memorabilia

What is it about old friends getting back together after a few years of fall out that sends us back to those old boxes and wondering what we would find in them.
I am sure a lot of people have found it difficult not to hang onto old things of childhood or adolescent interests that bring that half smile to our faces and find it difficult to throw out ourselves.
I know , I have tried so many times to empty those drawers. Just empty them out since I have not even used/seen those things for over two years. But still whenever I go through them with the idea of throwing out the stuff after looking through it, I end up closing the drawer without having thrown out more than a small itty bity bag of paper and also much more time spent in looking at those things.
It is one of the things that just lies around but always brings a funny smile now that it has been lying there for so long. So many old faces caught in pictures(god knows where they all were and if they still remembered you). Those knick knacks, riedship bands, those small little cards, those hand made bookmarks, some special tickets, some small rocks taken on the first solo trip somewhere. They have the unique capability to transport you to the time where they were pciked up /gifted.
It is that box that we cannot throw out easily...

Our battlefields....

Ever been to Pune, MH?
Well this is one city on its way to being a metro (so say the newspaper and the number of committees that are being proposed for this transition).
But funny thing is the road situation. It is I think a modern day, war training school. All of us have our vehicles(weapons of mass destruction or atleast capable of mass destruction) of choice. The limits are the roads (we are not supposed to go onto marked footpaths unless in dire emergency and courtyards of illegally made houses or porches of legally made but in-the-road-gardens) Rest of the paths which at times fit the description of the road are ready and venues for"free for all wrestling matches". Each vehicle of choice, has to defend the space it occupies on that road by various measures: Be it bullying the smaller ones, trying to maneuver around the other bigger or similar sized opponents on the road or jam the available space.
For the ones with smaller vehicles, have to follow the rule- when you cannot be mighty you have to be slippery, faster, get into spaces around the bigger vehicles. Basically fill up the spaces on the road around the bigger ones. For these ofcourse when trying to join into a main junction, on a smaller vehicle you do not want to be present on the attacking side of the enemy. This is the side of the stream that is facing the stream of the oncoming traffic. For smaller vehicles it is the vulnerable side and to be caught there means you have to wait till a big vehicle moves sluggishly around you inorder to afford you space to move around it or you have to use another vehicle as a shield.
Also no sense to drive on the left side of a local bus because even though it assumes a speed that is normal in top lane, incase one of the people has decided to alight RIGHT AT THIS MOMENT, this vehicle will not hesitate to stop right there or nosedive, without wondering about the vehicles on the left to the footpath on the left of the road.

But incase you are in the bigger vehicle, you will have these smaller pesky vehicles in front of you slowing you down and also trying to raze(damage, silently attack...) your doors or side mirrors. Just in case you are outfitting your vehicle of choice, I would suggest do away with the sidemirror, because most of the time you will have to keep it shut or someone will bang into it. If you are lucky it will still be hanging to your main vehicle frame but for most of the time it might have also been taken by the offender (the resale must be worth something).
This is just a gist of my learning in this battlefield for a short span of a year of my life. But I will definitely add more knowledge.

MAIN TIP:
If you have happened to discover a route that is usually deserted and great for you and your travel where you do not have to fight each inch of space your vehicle occupies then keep your mouth shut about its presence. Do not even in your crazily drunk out of your wits moment disclose the route., in this battlefield news like these are worth their number of words in gold and soon you will be fighting your same old road space with people who are trying it out.
